#NaNoWriMo from a noob: week 3

Okay, so week three did not go as well as I would have liked. My goal by Sunday was to have around 40,000 words done. It might have happened…if I’d written a single word all weekend. Sigh. Once again life stepped in and mucked up the plans. But I will say I didn’t have much inspiration to write anyway. There are a few scenes running through my head and my most recent Indie Ink challenge gave me a kick in the pants for one of them which was nice but overall I can feel myself dragging.

There is a HUGE scene, pivotal for the entire novel, that I really should do…but I’m holding off. I’m not sure why. I suspect if I let myself write it the rest of the book will just fall into place and I’ll be able to continue on to the end but instead I keep jumping back to other scenes and adding to them.

One of my writing buddies, The Drama Mama is going through some similar issues so at least I know it’s not just me. I think it’s the fact I have forced myself to write this story so linear instead of bouncing around with scenes like I normally do. My muse is pushing me to bounce…should I listen?

At this writing I am at around 36,000 and still 10 days to go. I will make it. I know I will. I don’t like failing ;) The fact I’ve seen other people already hit that magical 50,000 mark is inspiring.

To all my fellow NaNo’s: how has week 3 treated you? Is your story dragging or are you charging forward?

  1. As they would say in the Waterboy, “YOU CAN DO IT!!!!”

  2. Go Carrie and Drama Mama…

I’ve ironed some stuff out with my beginning. I don’t have a sound/solid ending. In fact, I’m stuck. I’ve written 56,102 words so I’ll certify on the 25th but I’m not happy.

I can;t wait to read your novel.

BINGO!!! Hahahaha. I almost think that this is what is holding me back too, though I STILL really haven’t gotten to the juice of the story.

Thank you for the shout out!!
